PURPOSE:To measure a mass absorption coefft. over a wide wavelength range with high accuracy by disposing a filter member provided with plural thin sheets consisting of different elements movably between an X-ray tube bulb and a sample base and providing an X-ray detector. CONSTITUTION:The filter member 1 is disposed in proximity to the irradiation port of the X-ray tube bulb 2 between the tube bulb 2 and the sample base 13. The member 1 is provided with different kinds of the thin metallic films 6 to 8 in the plural windows and is constituted with the window 9 made to remain so as to allow the transmission of the X-ray from the tube bulb 2 as it is. The measuring instrument 10 determines the relations between the inverse number of Compton scattering intensity and the mass absorption coefft. with respect to all the filters and holds the relations in the form of a dictionary, etc. The mass absorption coefft. with the sample is determined from the Compton scattering intensity detected by the X-ray detector 11. The absorption coefft. in a wide range of the wavelength regions is calculated with the high accuracy from the Compton scattering intensity on the short wavelength side and long wavelength side at the absorption end of the elements constituting the sample by changing over the member 1. |
