An apparatus for clamping mould is provided with a stationary platen (10), the movable platen (12) moved back and forth to the stationary platen, an air cylinder (13) for driving the movable platen, a roll follower attached to the movable platen, a cam (15) supported on a roll (16) attached to a frame (9), and an air cylinder (17) for driving the cam. After the movable platen (12) is moved up to close the stationary and movable moulds (18)(19), the cam is advanced to raise the roll follower so that the desired amount of mould clamping force is produced.
