PURPOSE:To efficiently use a ribbon by controlling the feeding distance of a thermal transfer ribbon by considering the state of dots in a lateral direction to form a character to be printed as a whole. CONSTITUTION:Logic sum output information stored in a first register 111 is retrieved in order from the end fed by a thermal transfer ribbon by first retrieving means 115. The number of bits of a second logic state (e.g., '0') after the bit of last first logic state (e.g., '1') is obtained. The logic sum output information stored in a second register 113 is retrieved in order from the end fed by the ribbon by second retrieving means 117. The number of the bits of second logic state (e.g., '0') until the bit of initial first logic state (e.g., '1') is detected is obtained. First control means 119 controls the feeding distance of the ribbon on the basis of the number of the bits by the means 115, 117. |
