The invention relates to a device for ventilating a fuel tank 10 comprising a purge tube 18 the end 22 of which is arranged in the upper internal part of the tank, and a vent pipe 26 connecting the upper internal part of the tank to the atmosphere through a valve 28 the body 30 of which is carried by the upper partition 12 and including a float 34 which can move vertically with respect to the body 30. According to the invention the float 34 includes an internal time-delay chamber 60 which communicates through an upper orifice 64 with the upper internal part of the tank or with the vent pipe 26 and which at its lower part includes a hole 62 of reduced cross-section so as to allow slow penetration of the fuel into the chamber 60 at the end of the operation of filling the tank, and keeping the float 34 in its high position for a predetermined time. <IMAGE>
