PURPOSE:To improve water repellency and gas supplying ability by covering almost all surfaces of impalpable powder grains or thin fibers with water repellent fine grains, whose average grain diameter is not larger than the grain diameter of the impalpable powder or the diameter of the thin fibers, or with thin films. CONSTITUTION:Almost all surfaces of impalpable powder grains or thin fibers are covered with water repellent fine grains, whose average grain diameter is not larger than the grain diameter of the impalpable powder or the diameter of the thin fibers, or with thin films. Therefore, even if a gas diffusion electrode constructed from these is used as a cathode electrode of a fuel cell for a long time, the electrolyte does not enter through the part not covered with the water repellent grains and the lowering of the supplying ability, due to the blockage of the gas passages formed by the impalpable powder or the thin fibers, can be prevented. Thus, excellent water repellency can be obtained when used as the water repellent material for either the gas supplying layer or the catalyzer layer of the gas diffusion electrode, and the gas supplying ability is not deteriorated. |
