PURPOSE:To obtain in a series of processes an optical element with holographic element and refractive index-distributed element integrated by transferring a texture through sol-gel method along with adding a process to provide refractive index distribution during the process to sintering. CONSTITUTION:A sol 13 is cast into a mold 11 in which diffraction grating pattern 12 consisting partly of equally spaced straight lines 2mu in period and 0.8mu in depth has been formed. This sol is then gelled, dried and sintered to obtained a sintered gel 14. Thence, the surface of this gel 14 is covered with a masking material, but an opening 18 for dopant diffusion is freed from the masking material 15. This gel 14 is then put into a solution 17 prepared by dissolving tetraethoxygermanium in ethanol to form a Ge-diffused region 19 in the gel 14 followed by carrying out sintering, thus obtaining the objective optical element with a diffraction grating 21 and a refractive index-distributed lens 22 formed on one surface and the other surface of a silica glass 20, respectively. |
