The process consists in preparing 10, 12, 14 a suspension of sodium alginate in a culture medium suitable for culturing alveolar macrophages; in preparing 16, 18, 20, 22 a suspension of alveolar macrophages AM, having previously phagocytised respirable particles, in a solution containing the culture medium and foetal calf serum; in mixing 24 the alginate suspension and cellular suspension; in extruding 26 the mixture in order to form droplets; in gelling 28 these droplets in a gelling medium containing culture medium, foetal calf serum and calcium chloride and then in dispersing the alginate beads obtained in a culture medium supplemented with foetal calf serum and calcium chloride. The alginate beads obtained are used to study the dissolution of particles by the alveolar macrophages. <IMAGE>
