A seal for civil engineering works or the like comprises a firm structural lower layer (3, 4), such as a concrete layer (3) with a fine layer (4), to which a sealing layer of plate-like elements (1) made of corrosion-resistant sheet metal, such as special sheet steel, is applied and bonded (5). The joints (10, 11, 14) of adjacent elements (1) are designed as expansion joints and welded (2, 6) together along their length. Tubular test ducts (40) are arranged in the expansion joints (19, 20). After the seal is assembled, an inert gas is introduced into the test ducts (40), and the seal and welded joints (10, 11, 14) are scanned. The escape of inert gas indicates the presence of a leak. |
