PURPOSE:To remarkably elevate a light extinction ratio, by forming the first and the second optical waveguides crossing each other at an angle of 90 deg., and the third optical waveguide crossing them at a specified angle, and providing 2 pairs of parallel electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In addition to the first optical waveguide 1 and the second optical waveguide 2, which make a crossing angle 2theta, the third optical waveguide 5 crossing both the first and the second optical waveguides at an angle theta is provided. In the crossing part of the optical waveguide 1 and 5, the first pair of parallel electrodes 3' making an angle theta/2 with both waveguides are installed, and in the crossing part of the optical waveguide 2 and 5, the second air of parallel electrodes 3'' making an angle theta/2 with both waveguides are installed. In case when no voltage is applied to the electrode 3', waveguide light 4 becomes non-switching light 4', travels straight through the first optical waveguide, a part leaks to the waveguide 5, also a part leaks to the waveguide 2 in the crossing part of the waveguide 5 and 2, therefore, the nonswitching light 4' scarcely leaks to the second optical waveguide 2. |
