<p>A reinforced aluminium or aluminium alloy composite material having a matrix of aluminium or aluminium alloy grains and comprising 0.1-10 % by volume of small refractory particles which are substantially homogeneously distributed in the matrix and which have a mean diameter of at the most about 1 νm, and 1-50 % by volume of high temperature resistant reinforcing fibres and/or particles having at least one dimension of at least about 1-2 νm, and a method of preparing same. The small refractory particles especially comprise Al2O3, and the reinforcing fibres and/or particles especially comprise SiO or Al2O3. The composite material has excellent properties with respect to strength and elasticity, notably at high temperatures.</p> |
