PURPOSE:To prevent reaccelerating performance from degradation after eliminating driving slip due to the excessive reduction of a wheel driving force by limiting the reduction of the wheel driving force for traction control in engine braking. CONSTITUTION:Wheels driven through an automatic transmission cause a vehicle to travel. Then, when the wheels produce driving slip, a drive force reducing means reduces the driving force of the wheels to block the driving slip. When an automatic transmission can brake an engine, the drive force reduction limiting means limits the wheel driving force reduction for traction control by the driving force reducing means in response to a signal from an engine brake capability detecting means for detecting the condition of the condition of said transmission. A problem can thus be overcome that the wheel driving force for traction control in the occurrence of driving slip during braking the engine is reduced too much so that the reaccelerating performance after eliminating the driving slip is damaged.
