In laboratories, especially in medical laboratories, materials to be examined under a microscope, in particular, are applied to a slide (1). The slide (1) has a carrier plate (2) which forms a carrier surface (3) for the material to be examined. The carrier surface (3) is surrounded by a raised protective wall (4) which retains the material to be examined on the carrier surface (3). The protective wall (4) prevents the user of the slide from coming into contact with the material to be examined. <IMAGE>
