A printing press (10) feeds its output onto a conveyor (26) which splits into two branches (28, 32) along which the output is selectively conveyable. One branch (28) leads directly to a bindery (30). The other branch (32) leads to bundlers (34), from which material may be passed to storage (44). There are means such as gatherers (46) for feeding material onto the bindery branch (28) of the conveyor, for combination with material fed directly from the press. Thus material from elsewhere can be incorporated. Relatively large books can be produced by printing first portions and feeding them into storage (44), then printing second portions which are fed along the conveyor via the bindery branch (28) where they are combined with the first portions (via bundlers (34) and gatherers (46)) and optionally other material too. The composite material is then bound. |
