A method of making a polishing member comprises the steps of providing a liquid resin, adding fine particulate abrasive material to the liquid resin, allowing the particulate abrasive material to settle at least partially to the bottom in the liquid resin, and causing the liquid resin to harden with the particulate abrasive material concentrated near the bottom thereof. In one embodiment the member is adhered to a rigid substrate.
