Microcapsules (11) having a high percentage of core material (12) are formed as separate, reservoir microcapsules by coating solid core particles (12) first with a thin, conformal layer (13) of parylene and then with a layer (14) of thermoplastic material to allow the microcapsule to be molded with others of the same type. The first coat (13) is formed by molecular deposition of free radicals of parylene monomer that polymerize in place as the particles (12) are tumbled in a cloud of mono-para-xylylene to form the coated particles (29). The particles (29) are then held suspended as a cloud in air in a chamber (30) while a liquid mist (34) of thermoplastic material is sprayed from a suitable dispensing nozzle (29) up into the cloud of particles to apply the second coat on the particles (29).
|
