Chemical additives of metal salts or mixtures of them are added to a prepared coating. The effect of the additives is proportional to the number of mols. of dissolved metal ions. For this purpose, the additives are varied between 2 and 50 wt.% of the water amt.. - The additives can comprise straight, or mixtures of, salts with metal ions Ca, Li, Mg, Al combined with chlorides, sulphates and phosphates. A typical example involves the impregnation of sand i.e. quartz sand grade 6 with an average granular size of 0.28 mm. The sand is bound with 1% dry content drying-hardened water glass (2 hours at 110 deg.C.). The test body has a dia. of 50 mm and a height of 50 mm., and a notable stability is achieved compared with only water or the addn. of an acid, e.g. 0.1 M HCl. |
