An apparatus for punching and/or cutting sheets of material carrying indicia, comprises a table (2) to receive sheets of material to be punched and/or cut, and means (4) for punching and/or cutting sheets of materials received on the table. The position, relative to the punching and/or cutting means, of indicia carried by a first sheet of a batch of sheets to be punched and/or cut is determined when the first sheet is positioned for punching and/or cutting. This may be carried out by means of a camera (5) which is also used to determined when the indicia of each subsequent sheet of the batch are in the same position relative to the punching and/or cutting means. Thus each subsequent sheet may be punched and/or cut at the same position relative to the indicia as the first sheet.
