A control method for valve-timing changeover in an engine in which valve timing for at least each one of intake valves or exhaust valves can be changed over between a low-speed valve timing suitable for a low-speed revolution range of the engine and a high-speed valve timing suitable for a high-speed revolution range of the engine, said method comprising steps of: comparing an engine output obtained with the low-speed valve timing to an engine output obtained with the high-speed valve timing; and changing over the valve timing through said comparison.
