A method is provided for modifying an ink jet printing head (10) which comprises applying a layer of a treated coating material (50) to the jet printing head surface area (18) surrounding each said drop discharge nozzle (20). This treated coated surrounding surface area maintains a phase change ink contact angle of at least about 50 DEG , at an operating temperature of at least about 70 DEG C. In this way, the ink jet printing head is capable of ejecting a plurality of individual drops of the phase change ink composition for forming undegraded, accurately placed printed images on a printing medium.
