PURPOSE:To obtain in high yield the title ketone useful as a starting material for macrolides by making microorganisms classified as Pichia act on an enol carboxylate to carry out asymmetric hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:(A) Microorganisms classified as Pichia capable of planar- selective asymmetric hydrolysis (e.g., Pichia miso IAM 4682) is made to act on (B) an enol carboxylate to carry out an asymmetric hydrolysis of the component A, thus obtaining the objective ketone of formula I (R<1> is 1-5C alkyl; R<2> is OH which may have protective group; R<3> is H or OH which may have protective group * is asymmetric carbon; n is 1-5). The component A is pref. an (E)-enol carboxylate of formula II (R<4> is 1-3C alkyl or alkoxy). |
