COPPER-CONTAINING POLYVINYL ALCOHOL-BASED FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain characteristics of rarely attaching marine organisms by supporting a specific wt.% of copper as a polyvinyl alcohol-copper (II) complex so as to provide a higher concentration in the surface layer part than that in the interior of fibers. CONSTITUTION:A spun polyvinyl alcohol-based yarn with <=50% crystallinity is impregnated with an aqueous solution of a copper (II) amine complex to support >=1wt.% content of copper thereon. The resultant yarn is then drawn and heat-treated to construct the cross section thereof so that the copper may be contained in a higher concentration in the surface layer part at a distance of >=70% based on the above-mentioned fiber radius from the center thereof than that, in other parts. The ratio of the supported copper is 1-8wt.%, preferably 2-7wt.%.
