The invention relates to a cryogenic current limiter. The subject is a cryogenic current limiter of the type comprising, in series in the line to be protected and for each phase, at least one superconducting coil comprising n substantially identical elements in series E1, E2 arranged in a cryostat 1 enclosing a cryogenic fluid, n being an integer at least equal to 2, characterised in that a varistor V1, V2 is connected electrically in parallel with each of the said elements E1, E2 and is placed inside the said cryostat, within the said cryogenic fluid.
