A bottom pour molten metal containment vessel, e.g. ladle, has a pour passage which may experience temporary blockage which would prevent teeming when the valve (16) is opened, so to remove the blockage apparatus (30) is located in the path of teeming, aimed upwardly at the blockage. Apparatus (30) has a tubular barrel (32) lodged in the teeming path by holding means (40) and a short projectile (32') ejectable from the barrel. A high pressure gas supply (48) is connected via a valve (50) to the barrel for pneumatically propelling the projectile (32') at the blockage so as to impact thereon and bring about its breaching, removal or disruption. The projectile (32') is a solid body, or a closed hollow body filled e.g. with a reactive substance such as magnesium or a gas generating composition.
