Apparatus for effecting controlled destruction of limited areas of living tissue e.g. his bundle ablation, by applying electrical pulses of high current to the tissue, having an electrical pulse generator (5), a probe with an electrode (4) to be placed close to or in the tissue area to be treated and a second electrode (6) for placement in contact with the patient (2) to complete the electrical circuit. The pulse generator (5) is adapted to produce a series of electrical pulses having a voltage of between 500 and 3600 Volts and a duration of between 5 and 500 microseconds.
