PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high selectivity, in a liquid phase, under mild conditions, without causing the deterioration of catalyst by carbon deposition, by the catalytic oxidative dehydrogeneration of diethylene glycol with molecular oxygen using a compound containing a platinum group metal as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Molecular oxygen is introduced into diethylene glycol in the absence of solvent or in a solvent such as gamma-butyrolactone, and made to react with each other in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound containing a platinum group metal and preferably supported by a carrier such as activated charcoal, graphite, silica, etc., at room temperature-190 deg.C under atmospheric pressure - several tens atm. to obtain the objective compound. When a solvent is used in the reaction, the concentration of diethylene glycol is preferably 5- 30wt%. The platinum group metal is especially preferably Pt or Pd, preferably a compound such as platinum chloride, chloroplatinic acid, palladium chloride, etc. The catalyst may contain Cu, Ge, Pb, etc. USE:Preservative for wood, latex, etc., solvent, etc. |
