PURPOSE:To inexpensively form a nozzle and to remarkably improve a recording density by discharging liquid from a slitlike nozzle in response to the presence or absence of application of an electric field with electric viscous liquid to form an image on a recording sheet. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle is interposed between two boards 11 and 12, the ends of which are blocked with spacers 22 in a slit state, and a plurality of electrodes 31, 32 are so formed as to be opposed to the inner wall faces of the boards 11 and 12 from liquid (electric viscous liquid) supply side to discharge ports. The stripelike electrodes 31 (a1, a2, a3,...) and 32 (b1, b2, b3,...) are so mounted that the a1 and b1,..., an and bn are opposed to each other. The liquid in a passage 41 is increased in its viscosity to be jelly in an electric field generated between the electrodes 31 and 32 to prevent the liquid from discharging from the end of the nozzle under pressure P. When a voltage applied to any electrode in response to an image signal is released, the viscosity of the liquid thereat is returned to the original, the liquid is discharged from the ports by the pressure P. When a sheet is disposed near the nozzle, an image corresponding to the image signal is recorded thereon. |
