<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an oriented film uniform over the entire part by crosslinking the liquid crystal which is held and oriented by a substrate subjected to a chemical or physical orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal is supported and oriented by the substrate subjected to the orientation treatment. The chemical orientation treatment refers to an operation to form the oriented layer in the form of a thin film on the substrate surface and the physical orientation treatment refers to an operation to deform the fine shape of the substrate surface. The liquid crystal molecules are oriented parallel, perpendicularly or diagonally to the substrate by an orienting material, orienting method or the nature of the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal is crosslinked after the orientation. UV rays are usually used for the crosslinking and the irradiation of the liquid crystal with electron beams or radiations such as alpha rays is equally well. The liquid crystal film of a desired shape is formed to the desired position on the substrate in this way.</p> |
