PURPOSE:A remedy for poliosis useful for remedying poliosis, bearable in a long- term continuous use, having low toxicity, comprising an extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A remedy for poliosis comprising an extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino as an active ingredient. The extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino is obtained by extracting the root, stalk, leaves or the whole parts of Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino with a proper solvent such as water, an aqueous alcohol or an alcohol, preferably water. The main component of the extract is a gypenoside, dammaran saponin. In the saponin component, an antistressing action on nervous stress which is regarded as one of major causes of poliosis and a promoting action on metabolism are considered to play at least partially a role in the activity of remedying poliosis. The remedying effect on poliosis is observed by the medication of the extract of about 0.1-5g, especially 0.3-2.0g daily for about 3 months. |
