<p>PURPOSE:To protect the lining of a mixer from erosion due to starting materials for glass preheated to high temps. when the materials are mixed in the mixer, by feeding molten glass cullet to the mixer besides the starting materials to cover the lining of the mixer with the cullet. CONSTITUTION:When starting materials for glass are melted in a glass melting vessel 1 provided with regenerators 3, starting materials 9 such as silica sand, dolomite and limestone are preheated to 1,000 deg.C with waste combustion gas from the vessel 1, and starting materials 10 such as feldspar, soda ash and sodium sulfate are heated to 500 deg.C with said gas. The materials are weighed with weighing machines 14, 15, charged into a mixer 13 and mixed. At this time, the refractory lining of the mixer 13 is chemically burned out by active starting materials such as soda ash, shortening the endurance life of the lining and causing the contamination of the starting materials for glass due to the lining material. In order to prevent the burnout, molten glass cullet is simultaneously fed from a glass cullet preheater 11 to cover the lining of the mixer 13.</p> |
