<p>An embossing foil such as a hot embossing foil includes a backing foil which is a thermoplastic polyester triple-layer foil comprising a central polyester layer which has a lower melting point than the other two polyester layers on respective sides thereof, and a decorative layer on the backing foil, comprising at least one layer of lacquer and possibly an adhesive layer.
