A method of providing score lines in packaging material (2) by local evaporation by means of a laser beam (9, 10), the laser beam (9, 10) and the packaging material (2) being relatively movable. The score lines are provided in a recurring pattern on at least one side of a web of packaging material advancing at uniform, adjustable speed. The intensity of the laser beam is adjustable and the laser beam is moved in two mutually perpendicular directions under the control (12) of pattern-dependent signals. |
