PURPOSE:To minimize the period of time necessary for spacing of a printing head and that for line feeding and contrive a shorter printing time by calculating printing times based on combinations of left and right end positions of printing in each printing line with each line feed quantity, obtaining the minimum value of the printing times, and determining the next printing line to be printed and each printing direction. CONSTITUTION:A left end position Y1 and a right end position Y2 of printing in the next line Y and a left end position Z1 and a right end position Z2 of printing in the line after next Z are detected from a printing buffer 6a, and are set into a RAM 6. Further, a line feeding time tl1 is calculated from a line feed quantity L1+L2+L3 for printing two lines by line feeding from the present line X to the next line Y and then from the next line Y to the line after next Z, and another line feeding quantity tl2 is calculated from a line feed quantity L4 +L5+L6 for printing two lines by line feeding from the present line X to the line after next Z and then from the line after next Z to the next line Y. Then, printing times t1-t8 for different combinations of 'forward' and 'backward' printing directions are set into the RAM 6, and the minimum of the printing times is obtained. Each of controlling circuits 9, 10, 11 and 12 is interfaced based on a program for reception control, determination of printing line, determination of printing direction, printing, control of line feeding, etc., for printing data stored in the RAM 6 and printing data stored in a ROM 7, and printing is executed on a printing medium. |
