PURPOSE: To reduce the risk of crushing and improve heat radiation and distribution force by joining a polishing compact into a recess formed at one end of a support with the side face inclined inward as tending to the center of a base bottom to be in a mutually complementary shape with the recess in the support. CONSTITUTION: A recess is formed at the top face 12 of a right circular cylinder shaped cemented carbide support 10 having the top face 12, a bottom face 14 and side faces 16 and defined by the side faces 18 joined to a plane base bottom 20 therearound 22 and inclined inward. In the recess, a diamond or cubic system boron nitride polishing compact 24 joined to the support 10 is placed which extends upward from the plane face 12 of the top of the support 10 and has a semispherical top face 26 curved outward. During use, a tool insert is secured to the face of a tool to be used so that the cutting plane of the tool can be obtained by the curved face 26 of the polishing compact 24 to provide crushing prevention due to thermal and dynamic force in cutting. |
