METHOD OF DISCRIMINATING SEPARATE BODY OR BAND

PURPOSE: To discriminate a specific object or zone which responds to exciting radiation caused by cold light emission by successively detecting first and second cold light emission by irradiating the object or zone with exciting radiation and detecting the difference between the two cold light emissions. CONSTITUTION: An irradiating means 3 irradiates the central spot of a belt 1 and a first module 5 detects a Stokes-Raman line from a diamond grain. A second module 5' detects a wide-band of cold light from the diamond grain. In order to separate the diamond grain from a gangue mineral, the grain 2 of the gangue mineral is carried on a belt 1 and irradiated with a beam from the irradiating means 3. Then the cold light emitted from the grain 2 is detected by means of the modules 5 and 5' maintained at a fixed distance. The difference between the detected cold light rays relates to the nature of the material and a simple microprocessor 11 and a discharging jet 12 can be used for discharging the diamond grain into a sorting box.
