The invention relates to rear-view mirrors which cannot be adjusted from the driver's seat. It makes it possible to adjust them quickly and accurately with the aid of a viewing device. The exterior rear-view mirror 1 of a known type comprises, built in or joined on with the aid of a viewing device holder 10 bonded onto its contour, a viewing device 9 arranged perpendicularly to the mirror 5. The line of sight 6 goes from the front to the rear of the vehicle, namely the front marker site 3 on the cover side 2, the crosswire 4 on the mirror side 5. When first installed, the device is set accurately according to the known trial-and-error method. Then, by means of the viewing device 9, the eye 8 uncovers the mark 7 which is marked on the vehicle or memorised. During reinstallation or accidental change in setting, the device can be set instantly by sighting the mark 7. The invention adds an element of safety by allowing optimum adjustment of the wing mirrors, for example, and in particular those of private cars towing a trailer. <IMAGE>
