Safety device for moving along a life line, comprising: - a cable supported by various intermediate support collars spaced along the cable, each collar defining a closed space preventing accidental disengagement of the cable; - means for fastening the said collars onto construction elements; - a means for linking the cable to individual protection equipment, comprising an attachment member which slides freely along the cable and a balancing member; - means for passing over each support collar; characterised in that each support collar has a substantially U-shaped profile, one of the branches of which U is adjacent to the construction, and in that the said means for passing over the collars comprise a mobile means for closing the opening of the U which can be moved into a position for releasing the opening of the collar in order to allow it to be passed over by the said linkage means. <IMAGE>
