Current-limiting induction coil

The invention relaters to induction coils having cores made of metal oxide ceramic (for example Y-Ba-Cu-O) for limiting the short-circuit current in power supply networks. The current-limiter concept consists in that the inductor core, when used with rated current, is superconducting and keeps the resulting inductance of the inductor low by means of its screening currents. In the event of overload, the winding of the inductor produces a correspondingly high magnetic field in the core, which changes it into the normal conduction state. This results in the screening currents vanishing, together with an increase in the resulting inductance, which ensures limiting of the current (Fig. 1).
