Process for reducing the benzene content of motor fuels

To reduce the benzene content of motor fuels, a motor fuel fraction containing aromatics such as benzene, toluene and xylene is subjected in the presence of ethylene from the exit gas of a fluidised catalytic cracking plant to catalytic alkylation in the presence of solid catalysts. For this purpose, catalysts are used which contain peracidic fluorine compounds of the elements of main groups III, IV and/or V of the periodic table. Catalysts with the peracidic fluorine compounds H2SiF6 and HPF6 are particularly suitable.
