<p>Boron- and sulfur-containing, oil-soluble compositions which are useful as lubricating oil additives, particularly in lubricants and lubricants containing little or no phosphorus. In one embodiment, the compositions of the invention comprise (A) at least on ester of metaboric acid having the general formula (I) wherein each R is independently a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to 18 carbon atoms, R in one RO(R'O) group may be hydrogen when n=0, or two of the R groups are hydrocarbylene groups joined together through a carbon, oxygen or nitrogen atom to form a ring, each R' is independently an alkylene group containing from about 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and n is from 0 to about 7, and (B) at least one oil-soluble sulfurized organic compound. Optionally the compositions also contain (C) at least one auxiliary corrosion-inhibitor and/or (D) at least one oil-soluble dispersant/detergent.</p> |
