The invention relates to a method for determining the forces and length changes of individual threads, especially of hairs, occurring in response to a uniaxial tensile stress. So that the method can be carried out very much quicker it is proposed that the individual threads be connected to one another to form a continuous thread and the force values and stretch values of the individual threads then be determined by means of a fibre-tension tester allowing the automatic introduction of new thread portions of the continuous thread into the test stage. The invention relates, furthermore, to a device for connecting individual threads, especially hairs, to form a continuous thread. In order to achieve a rapid and simple connection of the individual threads, it is proposed that a holding block having at least one groove, which possesses at least one air-intake hole connectable to a vacuum pump, be provided in the device. <IMAGE>
