A thermal energy storage medium comprises a salt and a supporting medium for the salt. The salt is capable of performing a transition from a more hydrated phase to a less hydrated phase on being heated above a transition temp. The salt absorbs a latent heat during the transition and gives up the latent heat during a reverse of the transition. The salt is pref. sodium acetate and the medium contains Xan than gum.
