In known systems of the aforementioned type, the individual elements are in each case very highly adapted to their intended application and therefore offer little flexibility in use. This results in high development and production costs. The new signal transmission device is intended to be more flexible to use and cheaper to develop and manufacture. The new system is characterised by a main transceiver module designed as a separate master module (1) and a plurality of secondary transceiver modules in each case designed as slave modules (2, 3, 4), the modules (1, 2, 3, 4) in each case containing all the components required for two-way transmission and reception of addresses, commands and signals and their serial/parallel and parallel/serial conversion. The modules (1, 2, 3, 4) represent standard elements which can be used in a versatile and flexible manner and which communicate with one another via a bus line, preferably comprising four wires only. The master module (1) and a central control unit (100) or each slave module (2, 3, 4) and at least one setting and/or signalling component (200, 300, 400) communicate with one another via standard interfaces. The new telecontrol and/or telecommunications system is suitable, for example, for alarm and monitoring systems, heating and air conditioning system controllers or fire alarm and extinguisher systems and similar applications. <IMAGE>
