PURPOSE:To effectively and efficiently coat the surface of iron and steel materials with a dense and thick copper or copper alloy film with high adhesive power in a reduced pressure chamber by thermal spraying copper or copper alloy powder by a laser under a reduced pressure using the laser as a heat source. CONSTITUTION:A base material 8 consisting of the iron and steel materials is disposed in the reduced pressure chamber 6 having a vacuum pump 10 and a thermal spraying head 4 is disposed above the base material. The thermal spraying head 4 is irradiated with the laser from a CO2 laser oscillator 1 via a mirror 2, a lens 3 and a transmission window 5 as a heat source. On the other hand, the copper or copper alloy powder such as bronze is supplied as the metal powder for thermal spraying to this thermal spraying head 4 by means of a carrier gas and further, an atmospheric gas is supplied from a cylinder 14 to the head. The above-mentioned metal powder is thermally sprayed under the reduced pressure by the laser to the surface of the above-mentioned base material 8 in this way. The resultant coating has the high adhesive power and exhibits excellent seizure resistance and wear resistance under a high surface pressure. |
