An assault-resistant gate is intended to bar passage, through an opening, of large vehicles moving at high velocity. The gate has a relatively strong hinge-post (14). A beam (30) extends from the hinge-post across the opening. The beam is relatively rigid in a horizontal plane. The beam is attached to the hinge-post by a breakaway mounting (32, 34). The attachment is weaker than the hinge-post. Energy absorbing material (60, 62) is disposed behind the beam on either side of the opening. |
