In the process according to the invention for coating workpiece surfaces, having a spray gun which is robot-controlled and is connected to a colour distributor to which a plurality of colours can be admitted according to choice, a set value for the coating flow, varying continuously or step by step, is stipulated in the course of a working cycle of the robot by means of the robot control. Furthermore, the coating flow to the spray gun is measured and is corrected in accordance with its deviation from the instantaneous set value by adjustment of the flow resistance over the flow passage between colour distributor and spray gun. In addition, values for the atomiser and/or horn air stream of the spray gun, which vary continuously or step by step, are set in the course of a working cycle of the robot by means of the robot control.
