The object of the invention is to provide a tool for use in the retraction of a piston into its cylinder. This tool has an application in the automotive industry, for example, in the replacement of worn brake pads in disc brake calipers. The tool is inexpensive, quick and easy to use. Upon removal of the brake caliper for the purpose of brake pad replacement, after removal of the used or worn brake pads, the internal piston press tool with one of the expander bolts (16) in position is installed in the caliper. The expander bolt (16) is then rotated causing the tool piston plate (14) to press against the brake piston face and the tool caliper plate (12) to press against the caliper thus causing the piston to retract into its cylinder. Expander bolts (16) of different lengths may be provided so as to obtain different distances traveled between the expanding plates. |
