<p>A method and apparatus for work expanding a cryogenic liquid wherein the liquid is expanded in a manner to avoid a transient pressure drop below the flash point thus reducing the potential for cavitation and consequent operating inefficiencies. To this end, a greater than customary number of blades (0.8 x 20 x D<1/4 ><N<1.2 x 20 x D<1/4 >, with D= Rotor outside diameter in inches and N = number of blades), and no diffuser is employed.</p> |
