NEW MATERIAL:The 2-cyclohexylpropanal derivative of formula I [P is H; Q is group of formula II (R is lower alkylene or two R groups together form a lower alkylene which may have 1-3 lower alkyl substituents), -CH=N-OH or P and Q together form group of formula III (R' is lower alkyl)]. EXAMPLE:2-Cyclohexylpropanal ethylene acetal. USE:A perfume having fruity or grassy fragrance. PREPARATION:The compound of formula Ia which is one of the compound of formula I can be produced, e.g., by acetalizing 2-phenylpropanal of formula IV with a diol compound of formula HO-A-OH (A is lower alkylene which may have 1-3 lower alkyl substituents) and hydrogenating the resultant compound of formula V.
