PURPOSE:To miniaturize an internal combustion engine and improve the maintenance and service capability of the engine by mounting a cam pulley near a cylinder head and dividing a cylinder head cover into upper and lower covers to make it into two layer structure. CONSTITUTION:The cam shaft of a tappet valve 10 is arranged in a cam chamber 6 in the longitudinal direction X of an internal combustion engine 2, and one end section 14 of the cam shaft 12 is fixed by a cam pulley 16. A cylinder head cover 8 is composed of a lower head cover 24 to be directly placed on the top of a cylinder head and an upper head cover 26 to be placed on the lower head cover 24. In addition, the lower head cover 24 is provided with a plurality of cam paps 28 arranged spacedly and in nearly crossing relationship to the longitudinal direction X of the internal combustion engine 2 to rotatably support a cam shaft 12 working together with the cylinder head. |
