A poultry foodstuff comprises grain, e.g. wheat, maize, barley, oats, &c. coated with additional foodstuff, e.g. albumen, protein-concentrate, or laying meal comprising proteins, fats, hormones, vitamins, minerals, ground grain, trace metals, fish meal &c. the coating being adhered to the grain either by applying an edible adhesive to the grain or mixing the additional foodstuff with the adhesive to form a plastic mass and then mixing in the grain. In each case a drying operation is then effected and preferably a protective coating is then applied. The mixing may be effected in a rotary drum through which cold or hot air can be passed to effect the drying. Before coating the grains are preferably reduced to uniform size. Germinated grain may be coated. |
